Museum Monday: National Gallery of Art

The National Gallery of Art is the premier art museum in Washington, D.C. Consisting of two buildings, it is a large museum complex. The West Building, a large Greco-Roman building, contains art from various regions and eras throughout history. The East Building is focused on art from the past two hundred years. Connecting the two buildings is an underground tunnel that features a people mover underneath a starry ceiling.

The architecture of both sections is fantastic. The connecting portion contains glass skylights reminiscent of the Louvre, the East Building features contemporary design with a large atrium, and the West Building has a large rotunda and beautiful construction.

In all, it is a great museum to visit. It definitely will take a whole afternoon, though – be sure to leave yourself enough time so you do not have to feel rushed.
