Arlington, Virginia, located directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., is one of the areas that doesn’t tend to be talked about as much as some other areas around D.C. However, it can be a great place to stay and there are definitely things to do while you are there.
Arlington is located north of Alexandria, south of Rosslyn. It is connected to the city via the blue and yellow metro lines, and National Airport is located directly inside it.
There are two main neighborhoods in Arlington, right off of metro stations. Pentagon City, close to the Pentagon and Pentagon City metro stations, is located in the vicinity of the Pentagon. Crystal City, directly southeast of Pentagon City, is similarly located off the Crystal City station.
The two main destinations to visit in Arlington are the Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon.
One of the main attractions of Arlington is the fact that it is a great place to stay. It is very quick to get into D.C. itself, unless you are going to a Red Line station, and National Airport is connected via metro. If you fly into National Airport and stay in Arlington, you could very feasibly be at your hotel’s front door within fifteen minutes once you get on the metro.
